Many people are interested in tracing their ancestors and we have had some interesting questions through this site. We have also linked two researchers of the same family, who have determined that they are related ! Although the contents of the Parish Chest (Account books, Registers of Births, Deaths and Marriages) have long gone to Norfolk Records Office for storage, my Mother spent many hours copying these details. Thus, we have a large stock of written notes through which we are prepared to search, for which we ask for a donation to the Tibenham Peal Appeal, as much as you feel you can afford to give for the information. There is nothing significant remaining in the Parish Chest, at All Saints' Church, Tibenham regarding records. The Parish was instructed about 20 years ago by the Bishop of Norwich's Office, to send them to the Norfolk Records Office, then located in Norwich Library for safekeeping, so in haste, we copied what we could. The Library burnt down in 1994 but all documents were saved, but damaged by water from the fire hoses system. A massive conservation programme has so far not only seen around three quarters of the damaged material fully conserved as necessary, but has led to the development of new techniques for conserving and preserving paper and (in particular) parchment. We now have a new Forum, which includes a Heritage Library, but the bulk of Tibenham items are at : Norfolk Record Office The Archive Centre Martineau Lane Norwich NR1 2DQ Tel: Norwich (01603) 222599 Fax: Norwich (01603) 761885 Website: http://archives.norfolk.gov.uk E-mail address: norfrec@norfolk.gov.uk For further details of this research service please ; other genealogical data pertaining to Norfolk is shown on the Links page. We would also be most interested to hear from previous residents of Tibenham with stories to tell, or those people researching their ancestors from Tibenham.
